Arthur Joseph "Jack" Ross

Ross, Arthur Joseph, (Jack), age 89 of Knoxville, formerly of Tampa, Florida died very peacefully in the early morning hours of February 11, 2012 at Shannondale Healthcare Center. Jack was born in Boston, Massachusetts to the late John and Florence Rossman. He was preceded in death by his parents, mother of his children, Barbara Skiles Ross and son, Arthur Denton Ross. He is surived by his wife, Barbara (Bobbie) Wheeler Ross; sons, Kenneth Jack Ross and wife, Diane, Hugh Randall Ross; daughter, Constance Faith Scarberry; step-son, David Norwood and wife Judy; daughter-in-law, Judy Ross Skiles and husband David Skiles; grandchildren, Kenneth Ross, Christine Ross Maimone, Colin Ross, Ryan Ross, Desiree Scarberry; great-grandchildren, Dava Denyelle Ross, Brent Austin Macknew and Caden Ross; beloved sister, Helen Rossman Elsner and husband, Herbert; their children, Sharon Kolikof and husband Jeff, Mark and wife, Marcia, Susan Lit and husband, Barry; great nieces and nephews, Justin and Joshua Kolikof, Michael and Melanie Elsner, Issac and Rachel Lit, special niece, Judy Smith and many other nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; very special companion, Silver. Jack served with honor in the Pacific Theater in both the Army and the Navy during World War II. After returning from military service, he drove taxi in Boston, Massachusetts and met many notable figures during this time, including Sally Rand and Joe Louis. He then was lured to Tennessee by the Chattanooga Choo Choo, where he met and married Barbara Skiles and became a member of her very large and interesting family. Jack had a long and successful career in sales and throughout his life made hundreds of friends. He was generous to a fault to all. One of the greatest joys of his life was being reunited in 2003 with his beloved little sister Helen (with whom he had lost contact during WWII) through the efforts of his nephew, Mark Elsner. Jack greatly enjoyed a visit to the World War II Memorial in 2008 with HonorAir and every day wore with pride his HonorAir cap. Jack's family would especially like to express their very deep appreciation and gratitude to the excellent staff of Shannondale's fifth floor. They treated Jack with great tenderness, care and concern over the past two and half years. Family and friends will meet 1:30 Pm Wednesday at Tennessee State Veterans' Cemetery for a graveside service with Rabbi Alon Ferency officiating.
