Dr. Carroll William McGinnis

On Tuesday, October 4, 2022, Carroll William McGinnis passed from this life into his new home. Carroll made a difference in hundreds of lives around the world throughout his life. He was born February 12, 1935 to Dr. Perry and Evelyn McGinnis at Pressman’s Home in Rogersville, TN. The family moved to Knoxville where he lived in the Bearden area. He met his sweetheart, Reba Price, at Bearden High School and married after both graduated from University of Tennessee. Carroll (Doc) graduated from UT Memphis Medical School. He later was a Captain in the Army and served in a MASH unit where he nourished his love for medicine. Carroll cared for many patients and families at Norwood Clinic and St. Mary’s Hospital as a Family Physician (he would say he specialized in the skin and everything underneath). As he retired, Carroll and Reba travelled the world falling in love with volunteer medical missions. They loved on, cared for, and shared Jesus with people in France, Kenya, Nigeria, Bolivia, Mexico, and Remote Area Medical. They served on the board for Homeless Children International. Carroll was a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Director, and a lifelong member of Central Baptist Bearden. Carroll was known for his uncommon character, kindness, and integrity. He was the most generous caregiver and most passionate in his love for God and family. This was shown most fiercely with his family as he cared for Reba for 17 years with Alzheimer’s Disease. Carroll was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to tell the stories of his adventures. He was known for his keen sense of humor and quick wit. He is worth a hoot! Maybe even two hoots! Carroll joins his family in heaven with his parents, Dr. Perry and Evelyn McGinnis; his late wife Reba Price McGinnis; his latest wife Margaret Bell McGinnis; his brother-in-law, Tom Minter. Carroll leaves behind and is survived by his children: Angela Olivia Wampler (Chris); William Price McGinnis (Anita); stepchildren Patrice Minteer (Bill) and Thomas Bell (Sharon). Grandchildren: Madison Mills (Tyler); McKenzie Bergenback (Josh); Norris Wampler (Hope); Price McGinnis (Zoe); Mary Allyson Martin (Tanner); Virginia Duke (Paden) and Annabelle McGinnis. Great Grandchildren: Olivia Caroline Mills, Bonnie Claire Mills, William Price (Tripp) McGinnis. His Sister: Olivia Minter. And, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends. The family will receive friends on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2022 at 5 - 7:00 pm at Rose Funeral & Cremation - Mann, with Celebration of Life Service to follow at 7:00 pm. The interment service will be at Highland Memorial Cemetery on Monday, Oct 10, 2022 at 11:00 am.
