Catherine "Cathy" Campbell Guthrie

Catherine “Cathy” Campbell Guthrie, age 76 of Knoxville, died peacefully on June 7, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born November 20, 1947, in Pikeville, TN and grew up in Knoxville, TN. She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Gillespie Avenue Baptist Church. A graduate of Fulton High School and Knoxville Business College, Cathy retired from the former St. Mary’s Hospital after 30+ years. She would tell anyone that retiring was one of the best decisions she ever made. After leaving St. Mary’s, she volunteered for several years for both Mobile Meals and the Books for the Homebound program at the Knox County Public Library. Cathy was also known for making the best buttermilk biscuits you’ve ever had. She was also a regular watcher of the long running soap opera “Young & the Restless.” As technology changed from VHS tapes to DVR and beyond, Cathy always found a way to master it so that she could watch her show. Her most amazing quality was that of her love for her children. She took pride in being a good mother to both her children from her first marriage and the children of her second husband. She lovingly raised her special needs son Tommy. Preceded in death by parents James & Phyllis Campbell; husbands Tommy Lee Keene, Sr. and Jesse Lynn Guthrie; stepbrother-in-law Richard King. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, children Anna Leah Keene (Ben Edwards) and Tommy Lee Keene, Jr., Knoxville; stepchildren Kevin (Laurie) Guthrie, Wasilla, Alaska and Jason (Ashley) Guthrie, Madisonville, TN; brothers Robert (Dartha) Campbell, Folkston, GA and James Nolan Campbell (Suki), Knoxville, TN; sister-in-law Donna Keene Holt, stepbrother-in-law David King, and brother-in-law Jack (Vicki) Guthrie; grandkids Kyle Guthrie, Caelan Guthrie, Jett Guthrie; nieces and nephews Michael and Meredith Campbell, Sarah Holt, and Mimi Townsend; several cousins in Pikeville, TN and beyond; plus longtime friends Mike & Frances Booth, Paul Kirk, Charlie & Jean White, David & Vicki White, Linda & Jerry Cash, Sandra Marshall, and all the members of the Fulton Chicks lunch group. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Monday, June 10, 2024, at Rose Funeral & Cremation Broadway. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 am Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Greenwood Cemetery with Rev. Gerald McGinnis officiating.
