Joan K. Smith

Joan K. Smith passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at the age of 88. Joan is preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” C. Smith, her father, Ralph Kinzalow, her mother, Iva Ruth Kinzalow, her sister-in-law, Virginia Acker (Bob) and her grandson, Michael Smith. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Cornelia “Connie” Brown (Paul), her 3 children, Kim Stuart (Tim), Mike Smith and Neal Smith (Becky) and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Joan was a woman of many titles including daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and friend. She was born September 5, 1936 in Knoxville, TN. She grew up in Knoxville and went on to attend the University of Tennessee where she met and married Jim Smith. They were married for 66 years and spent the past 31 years in Sevierville, Tennessee. Joan attended the University of Tennessee and graduated with a degree in Business Administration. She served her church in many ways, including working with the junior high students. Joan was the bookkeeper for James C. Smith Builder Inc. for over 30 years. After retiring, there was no telling where in the world you’d find Joan and Jim. She and Jim made numerous extended trips to Hawaii and traveled all over the United States. Joan was always a friendly person and never met a stranger. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Sevierville. When she and Jim were not traveling, she was at home creating picture books to capture memories of their recent adventures or family gatherings. She had a love for all things sweet; including cookies or a bowl of chocolate and raspberry ice cream. The family would like to give a special thank you to Freedom Senior Living and Amedysis Home Health Care for the care, compassion and love they showed to Joan and family during this time. The receiving of friends will be at noon on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel. Services will follow at 1pm. Graveside services will be at 3pm on Tuesday October 29, 2024 at Woodlawn Cemetery (4500 Woodlawn Pike Knoxville, TN 37920). Friends and family are invited to attend.
