Joe Charles Holdredge

Knoxville - Joe Charles Holdredge passed away peacefully of natural causes on Wednesday evening, May 5, 2021 having just celebrated his 95th birthday and was reunited with Joyce, his wife of 72 years. He was surrounded by his family and supported by the loving staff at Elmcroft Halls Memory Care and UT Medical Center Hospice Services. Joe was born on a dairy farm on April 26, 1926 in Loudon, TN to Homer and Glynden (Hoppage) Holdredge. He served in the Navy during the end of World War II and again in the Korean War. Joe was a self-made man and entrepreneur. He had many different businesses; Volunteer Floor Company, several other subcontracting/manufacturing companies, hotels and an assisted living facility He even spent a few years as the Liquor Inspector for the City of Knoxville under the term of Mayor Leonard Rogers. His most rewarding and enjoyable time was his partnership in The Marble Shop. He and Joyce built their dream home, using marble extensively, and lived there until moving to Elmcroft. Joe's passion was flying. Many have taken a trip in his plane as he would take anyone willing to go up with him. He flew for business and for endless trips to Florida and the beach, which he loved. Joe was very active at Central Bearden, serving as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years. He loved square dancing, took up performing magic and enjoyed many volunteer activities. He was a Past Worshipful Master and a74-year member of Cherokee Masonic Lodge #728 and Past Worthy Patron of Bearden Order of Eastern Star. He also served as Grand Worthy Patron for the State of Tennessee Order of Eastern Star. He and Joyce traveled all over the state visiting various chapters and making lifelong friends. Joe was a wonderful and loving father, a devout and giving Christian, a mentor to many, and the nicest man you could know. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce D. Holdredge, parents, brother Homer Holdredge, Jr. (Buck), and sisters Maye Rose, Sarah Crabtree and Ruth White. He is survived by daughters Jill Roggeman Thompson (Dale & daughter Amanda, husband Jameson, children Tristen, Brielle and Brynn) and Judy Blachly (Michael & son Zach), grandsons Brent Roggeman (Robin), Ty Blachly, Nick Blachly, great granddaughter Brighton Roggeman, and many loving nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends, Wednesday, May 12, 4-6 pm, Rose Funeral & Cremation - Mann, 6200 Kingston Pike; Masonic graveside service, Thursday, May 13, 1 pm, Roberson Cemetery, 4975 Roberson Springs Road, Loudon, TN 37774.
