John Howard Dorris

John Howard Dorris was born in Springfield, Tennessee in 1937 to L.H and Gladys Dorris. Some of his fondest memories were those spent with his parents gardening, at his family home in Clarksville, Tennessee, a hobby he continued throughout his whole life. He married Nancy (Jones) Dorris, and they had three children. Two daughters, Janet (Cochran) Misse (Mee), and their son Scott. Howard and Nancy were married for sixty-four years. Howard had many roles in his life: son, brother, friend, uncle, husband, and father but there is no role he treasured as much as being “Daddy D” to his four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Undoubtedly some of his most favorite memories with them are those spent on Hilton Head Island, or as his family so lovingly calls it “Daddy D’s Water”. They were so lucky to have been able to take him one final time to see his water this past May. Daddy D will be remembered for his inquisitive spirit, his ability to fix absolutely everything (all it needs is a bit of duct tape), his ability to grow the best tomatoes, and the love that he had for his family and friends. Howard was a proud Marine and worked as a pharmaceutical salesman in the East Tennessee area. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Concord where he served faithfully for many years. Howard was preceded in death by his parents L.H. and Gladys Dorris, his brothers Donald and Jerry Dorris, his son Scott Dorris, and his nephew Jay Dorris. He is survived by his wife Nancy Dorris, daughters: Janet (Rick) Cochran and Misse (Shawn) Mee. His grandchildren: Alli (JT) White and their sons Hudson Scott and Haddon, Baylee (David) McConnell and their daughter Maggie Blair, Parker Cochran (Catie Jett), Madi Mee (Jacob Lambert), and several special nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 8th from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Concord with a memorial service to follow.
