Joseph Moreman Morrow

Joseph Moreman Morrow passed away on July 29, 2018 with his loving family around him. Joe is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Demetra “Debbie”; son Joseph Littleton Morrow his wife, Jeanie, and grandchildren Will, John, and Ben; his daughter Helen Morrow, her husband Chris Ruberg, and grandchildren, Tess and Lucy. Joe is preceded in death by his father and mother, Levy Powell Morrow, Sr., and Mary Sue Moreman Morrow. He is also preceded in death by his brother Colonel Levy P. Morrow, Jr., his wife, Doris Tillman Morrow, and their son, Levy P. Morrow, III “Buddy”. Buddy's sons are Levy P. Morrow, IV “Bubba”, and William Robert Morrow. Major General Dixie A. Morrow (USAF) is the daughter of Colonel and Mrs. Morrow. Dixie's husband is Dan Pernell. His brother Dr. John E. Morrow, Sr. also preceded Joe in death. John's wife is Sarah Catherine and their sons are Dr. John E. Morrow, Jr., his wife, Janice, and grandchildren John William Morrow (wife Jamie), and Mary Catherine; son Stanley, Elizabeth, and grandchild Alex. Joe's sister, Dr. Sue Morrow Terrell has two sons: Dr. Thomas R. Terrell (wife, Kelly Porter, daughter Joanna) and James Morrow Terrell. Joe was born in Elba, Alabama. Upon/at his arrival, his paternal grandfather, Joseph Littleton Morrow, looked at baby Joe and suggested, "Let's call him Pete!" So, to everyone in Elba, Joe was known only as Pete and he did not start using the name Joe until he entered the Navy. While attending Elba High School, Joe played a guard position on the Elba High School Tigers Football Team, kicking off every game to the crowd cheer, "Dynamite Morrow." A skilled athlete, he was a strong hitter on the baseball field. After high school graduation, he attended Troy State College for two years before enlisting in the US Navy for four years serving as a Radarman. After naval retirement, he graduated from the University of Alabama earning a B.S. in Business. After graduation, he took the Civil Service Exam and trained to be a real estate appraiser with HUD (Housing and Urban Development). First assigned to the Washington, D.C. office, he then spent four years in San Francisco, CA where he met and married his wife, Demetra. Joe returned to Washington, D.C. and his last assignment was in Knoxville, TN where he has resided since 1972. Pete enjoyed many leisure time activities: reading, listening to music--classical to pop to country western, playing with his loyal dog Lilly, enjoying the deck (especially the hanging flower baskets and crepe myrtle in full bloom), watching squirrels battle for birdseed and Lily's protecting the house from chipmunks, and of course supporting Bama Football (Roll Tide!). Joe Morrow was a member of Concord United Methodist Church. He saw God as good, the world as wonderful, friends as expanded family, and life as fun and invigorating. Visitation will be from 2:00-5:00 pm Sunday August 5th at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel on Kingston Pike. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 6th at 12:30 pm in the same location, to be followed by Interment & full military honors at the East Tennessee State Veteran's Cemetery. Afterwards, family and friends are invited to join Joe's family for sharing fond memories and refreshments at the family home.
