Patricia Carole Pinckley Johnson

Johnson, Mrs. Patricia Carole Pinckley, age 88, of Knoxville passed away peacefully on June 12, 2024. She is the daughter of Dr. Guy C. Pinckley, Sr. and Jewell Harmon Pinckley (deceased). She graduated from Tompkinsville High School in 1953. Pat Johnson earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree in home economics from the University of Tennessee. She married her devoted husband, Dr. Joseph E. Johnson after attending obtaining her degrees at UT. Through her marriage to Dr. Joe, she served the University of Tennessee alongside him, culminating in becoming the First Lady of the University of Tennessee in 1991 when Dr. Joe was named the 19th President of the UT System. In addition to her roles alongside Dr. Joe, she was a devoted member and Ladies Bible Class leader at Laurel Church of Christ, an advocate for mental health care in the greater Knoxville community, a loving mother to her children, Kent and Kelly, and a loving grandmother to her grandsons, Tucker and Luke Harlin. As her friends, family, and community members can attest, she had the gift of being a great listener in all facets of her life. She also had the gift of mentoring many women in the greater Knoxville community. Pat Johnson is preceded in death by her husband Dr. Joseph E. Johnson; her son, Kent Johnson; and brothers, Donnie, Richard, and Guy C. Pinckley, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Kelly Johnson Harlin and husband Bill; grandsons, Tucker and Luke Harlin; brother Jim Pinckley, and sister- in-law, Diane Champion. Special thanks to her nephew Jim Pinckley for the care, conversations, cookies and many evening dinners he shared with his Aunt Pat over the last 4 years. Our family appreciates her circle of dear friends for their constant love and support. The family is also grateful to Vivian Madden, Trish Massengale, Mary Sowell, and the many devoted caregivers who became our family in the last year. The Johnson family will hold a visitation on Thursday, June 27 from 4-6pm and Friday, June 28 at 10:00 am at Laurel Church of Christ. Services will take place on Friday, June 28 at 11:00 am at Laurel Church of Christ in Knoxville.
