Thomas I. Stephenson III

Stephenson, Thomas I., III – age 93, of Knoxville, died Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Parkwest Medical Center. He was born July 10, 1924 to Dorothy Dooley and Thomas I. Stephenson, Jr. of Alcoa-Maryville, TN. Thomas was a member of Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church. He attended early school years in Maryville, TN. Upon graduation from Baylor School in Chattanooda, he enterered Massachusetts Institute of Training in Cambridge, MA and also enlisted in the US Navy V-12 College Training Program. In June of 1945, he graduated MIT and was commissioned Ensign, USNR in November, 1945. After serving in the Pacific Theatre, he was separated from the Navy in 1946. A career with Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA) started then and spanned 40 years. Thomas retired in 1986 after assignments at numerous locations as engineer, works manager, and finally vice-president in Pittsburgh, PA. During the ALCOA career, he was active in leadership roles of several civic and professional organizations. He was also a member of Cherokee Country Club, The Coffee Club in Knoxville, and the Naples Yacht Club in Naples, FL. He was preceded in death by parents; wife of 47 years, Eleanor N. (Jimmie) Stephenson; and brother, Robert Stephenson. He is survived by sons; David Allen Stephenson and wife Frances of Meridian, MS and Gary Conrad Stephenson of St. Mary’s, GA; daughter-in-law, Robin Lockhart Stephenson; grandsons, Conrad Apollo and Thomas Brent; nieces, Katherine Ann Todd of Nashville, TN., Jean Blair of Cornwall, NY; nephews, Thomas W. Stephenson and Rob Stephenson. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Thomas's care giver who is also a dear family member, Margaret Kellam. Following a private interment, there will be a memorial service at Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church Chapel on Friday at 2:00 pm with Rev. Rachel Hamburger, Rev. Mark Lampley and Dr. William R. Barron officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the Church.
