Allene Reddick

Allene Reddick, age 84, of Knoxville, TN died of natural causes on April 20th, 2023 peacefully at home. Allene was born February 19th, 1939 to father George Denton and mother Laura Underwood Denton in Strawberry Plains, TN. She was a graduate of Carter High School where she excelled academically before working for Gordon Hodge Photography for greater than a decade as an assistant. During these early years she met and married the love of her life, Ralph Gordon Reddick. Later she worked for Fox and Farmer Law as an administrative assistant after her husband’s untimely death in 2002. She tirelessly worked as an amazing mother for two boys with whom she raised alongside her husband Ralph. She was an avid bridge player achieving Life Master through duplicate bridge tournaments. She enjoyed spending time with her family, laughing with her husband, listening to music, and spending time with her grandchildren. She always maintained her natural beauty having served as a model for a limited time early in her life. She loved sunbathing up until her passing, and delighted in her later years traveling throughout Europe with her beloved friend Mary Dial Goodman. Allene was an extraordinary person simultaneously bright, intelligent and wise but kind, generous, and humble preferring to serve others in the background. She was a loyal friend, sister, daughter, and wife to her husband of 30 plus years before his passing in 2002. She was a masterful and caring mother guiding when necessary but allowing both her sons to grow into their independent selves. She was wise and direct but loving and soothing at the same time. She was firm and clear about her beliefs and politics without ever being off-putting, pedantic, or adversarial. She believed in letting others live their lives unencumbered while she supported and cheered for them along the way. She made the most amazing sandwiches (Allene Specials as they were called) that were savored by all. Her laugh enlivened any room as she listened to her children and grandchildren play music, dance and sing while her beloved Shih Tzus Princess Ling Ling and later Bella sat on her lap. For someone who was so subtle, deferent, soft spoken and kind, the enormity of her loss and impact of her gifts to all who are remaining is difficult to fully characterize in words. Although her passing was sudden and painful for all who loved her, there is solace in knowing she left while sunning in leisure without pain or anticipatory awareness of death and that she can now be reunited with all those who preceded her with who she shared and will continue to share so much love. She is preceded by her father George Denton, mother Laura Denton, sister Katherine Hodge, and husband Ralph Reddick. She is survived by Her two sons and daughters-in law Barry and Ellen Reddick of Knoxville TN and Brad and Melissa Reddick of Davidson NC. Grandchildren Elizabeth and Natalie Reddick of Knoxville TN and Benjamin Wiley, Annabel, and Ruthie Reddick of Davidson NC and her last remaining sibling (twin) Allen Reddick of Knoxville TN. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 29, 2023 between from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm with a memorial service following at 3:00 pm at Rose Funeral & Cremation - Mann, 6200 Kingston Pike, Knoxville TN 37919.
