Ann Rector Weigel

Ann Rector Weigel, 81, of Knoxville, TN, passed away peacefully on December 17th. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Ann was known for her boundless love, infectious dimpled smile, and unwavering commitment to her family. Born in Knoxville in 1943, Ann was a lifelong resident who embodied the warmth and spirit of her hometown. She met her loving husband of 56 years, Billy, in Knoxville. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and commitment. Ann graduated from Central High School in 1959 and continued her education at The University of Tennessee, graduating in 1963 with a degree in Education. She touched countless young lives during her years teaching elementary school in Atlanta and Knoxville. Her love for teaching continued through her work as a Sunday school teacher at First Presbyterian Church. Ann was a wonderful and devoted mother to three children; Laurie, Kurt, and Meg. She never missed a field trip or an opportunity to serve as a room parent and no milestone was too insignificant to celebrate. She enjoyed time on Norris Lake, relaxing in the sun, skiing, and preparing incredible meals, including her famous Sunday brunch. She planned incredible summer vacations for the family covering much of the U.S. before adding Europe, Australia and Asia. Her attention to detail meant no important site was overlooked. And while Billy might argue that “You’ve seen one castle, you’ve seen them all,” Ann ensured that no regal residence was ever missed. She was a loving grandmother, known as “Nanya” to some and affectionately “Aya”, to others. She adored visiting her grandchildren and cheering on their various athletic pursuits. Her passion was for her family, to whom she selflessly gave her time and love. An active member of the community, Ann was a member of the AOPi Sorority at UT, Nine O’clock Cotillion, Junior League, and the Sequoyah Presbyterian Church, where she had served on the flower committee. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and community service that will continue to inspire those who knew her. Ann’s husband and family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Jared Kravitz, whose outstanding care and compassion for her extended beyond office hours. To Dr. Amy Bentley and her staff, we are so grateful for the kindness and attentiveness you showed her each and every day. And to Joseph at UT Medical Center, who provided the utmost compassionate care and comfort to Ann and her family during her most recent hospital stay. To Jeremy Sinclair, whose regular visits became a bright spot to Ann’s week. And to Mickey Babb, who was a treasured friend, “daughter,” and devoted caregiver. She will forever be a part of the Weigel family. Ann is survived by her husband, Billy; her daughter, Laurie Weigel Keville of Charlottesville, VA; son, Kurt Weigel of Knoxville, TN; daughter Meg Weigel and son-in-law Keith Kwasigroch of Atlanta, GA; and seven grandchildren, Connor, Jack, and Caroline Keville; Karley and Abby Weigel; and Will and Emma Kwasigroch; niece Missy Rector Overton and husband John; nephew Brian Rector, his wife Erin and their son, Lucas; and nephew John Parker Rector. Ann was so loving and giving. She now rests with her Lord in Heaven. A celebration of life will be held January 13, 2025 at 4:00pm in the sanctuary of Sequoyah Presbyterian Church, with visitation to follow in Barron Hall..
