Annette "Ann" Marshall Wallace

Annette (Ann) Marshall Wallace passed away at her home on January 1, 2024. Ann was born in Indianapolis, Indiana before spending her childhood and adolescence in Louisville, Kentucky. She made her way to Knoxville to attend the University of Tennessee to pursue a career in nursing. While in school, she was active on campus with the Kappa Delta sorority, excelled in nursing school, and met her future husband, Stephen Wallace. They shared their first date at the 1982 World’s Fair in Knoxville. They would spend their next 41 years together. Ann was passionate about caring for others. She worked as a registered nurse for many years serving various patient populations in different specialties. She was dedicated to her family, and stepped away from nursing to raise and support her children. She was a natural leader and community servant. She was an active member of Junior League of Knoxville for years, and ultimately served as the President of the local chapter. She went on to become a member of The Akima Club of Knoxville, where she formed invaluable friendships while enriching our community. Ann was determined, independent, and had a special sense of humor which earned her the nickname, “comedi-Ann”. She was courageous and tough as she lived with Multiple Sclerosis and other chronic health issues over the last 23 years. She had deep friendships that spanned various seasons of her life, many of which lasted decades, for which she was grateful. Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Ellen Marshall, of Louisville, Kentucky. She is survived by her devoted husband of 39 years, Stephen, children Eric Wallace and Elizabeth Sowell (Blake), both of Knoxville, and four beloved grandchildren whom she adored deeply-Vivian and Cole Wallace, and Morgan and Wesley Sowell. She is also survived by her brother Phillip Marshall (Kathi) of Louisville, Kentucky and five nieces and nephews whom she cherished. The family would like to thank Ann’s medical team who served her over the years and for the compassion and care from UT Hospice Services, especially Dr. Cynthia Pearman and Patrick, RN. The family is also thankful for her deeply loyal friends that were so caring and helpful in her final weeks. She will be deeply missed by many, but we find peace knowing she is no longer suffering. The family will hold a private service followed by a receiving of friends at Rose-Mann Funeral Home (6200 Kingston Pike) on Tuesday, January 9th from 4:00 - 6:00 pm.
