Anthony "Tony" John Caputo

Caputo, Anthony “Tony” John – age 85, of Knoxville, Tennessee, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on June 8, 2015. Tony was born in Dennison, Ohio on March 12, 1930. He attended Case Western Reserve where he earned his degree in Chemical Engineering. Tony then served in the Army for 2 years during the Korean War. He then worked as a chemical engineer in the Ceramics division at the Oak Ridge “K-25” Gaseous Diffusion Plant and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory for over 42 years. Tony has several patents to his name. After Tony’s retirement he was able to do the things he was passionate about. He would spend 4 months each winter skiing in Colorado. He would spend his Saturdays in the fall tailgating and cheering for his beloved Tennessee Vols. He was able to travel the world and visit all seven continents some even multiple times. After his health forced him to slow down in his retirement at age 81, he adopted his first dog, “Samson.” They not only became best buddies but Samson served as a source of much comfort and joy during Tony’s health’s decline. He was predeceased by his son, Steven Anthony Caputo; parents Rosario and Antonina Caputo; brothers, Joseph Caputo and wife Carmella, Charles Caputo and his wife Dorothy; sister Teresa Mosher and her husband, Adrian. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; daughter, Ann Trotter and husband Mitch, of Spring, Texas; Phyllis’ sons, Brad Coe of Denver, Colorado, and Darren Coe of Knoxville; grandchildren, Chris, Michelle and Michael Trotter, and Josie Coe; several nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and friends. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Ms. Darlene Rightsell of Knoxville and the members of Ben Atchley Veteran’s Home in Knoxville. Their dedication and effort to provide quality care for Tony were a heartwarming blessing to the entire family. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of the time we spent with him. Military honors will be presented on Friday, June 26, at 1:30 pm at East Tennessee State Veteran’s Cemetery, Lyons View Pike. A Christian prayer service will be held honoring Tony on Saturday, June 27, at 4:00 pm at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel, 6200 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919. The family will receive friends following the prayer service.
