Barbara Reagan Carter

CARTER, BARBARA REAGAN - age 89 of Knoxville, has gone to be with her Lord, Sunday, December 5, 2010. She was a member of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church for many years and was active in the Thursday Fellowship, Circle One, Sojourner and Abundant Life Sunday School classes. Following her graduation from Knoxville High School in 1939, she enrolled at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, joining the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and serving as President of the pledge class. She began dating Maynard Carter during her first months at U.T. and they were married in February of 1942. Maynard was soon called to training in United States Army Air Corps after serving in the China-Burma-India Theater. He returned to the U.S. and while stationed at Davis-Monthen Air Force Base, both Maynard and Barbara received their degrees at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Following Maynard's retirement from the Air Force, and becoming a Lt. Col, he and Barbara and their two children came back home to Tennessee. Barbara began teaching English at Farragut High School and retired in 1987. She is preceded in death by her parents, George W. Reagan and Martha Hodges Reagan and her beloved husband, Frank Maynard Carter, Jr. She is survived by her son Chris Reagan Carter; Caylee, Brie and Chanah Carter; daughter, Carolyn Carter Dempsey Miller Smith, Timothy Francis (Bo) Dempsey, Jr. and Michael Sean Dempsey; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Carol Reagan; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Reagan McMurray and Fred McMurray and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends will meet at the Tennessee State Veterans' Cemetery for a 1:30 PM Thursday interment service prior to a memorial service for Barbara to be held 2:15 PM Thursday in the chapel of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church with Reverend Roy Zinn officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the adjoining reception and welcoming hall. At the family's request in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Water Angel ministry, 907 University Ave N.W., Knoxville, Tn. 37921.
