Beatrice Schramm "Bea" Bush

Bush, Beatrice Schramm – age 85 of Knoxville, died on Thursday August 30, 2012 at Atlanta Hospice. Born in Elizabeth, NJ, she moved to Knoxville as a newly-wed in January 1948. Bea was a Registered Nurse, a graduate of Mount Sinai School of Nursing in New York City. She was one of the first of her peers to join the ranks of career women in 1970 and returned to nursing after staying at home with her children for 18 years. She was very proud of her 22 years at Park West Hospital where she was a charter employee and opened the 4W floor. Bea was a compassionate and caring nurse who had high standards and demanded excellent patient care from everyone who worked with her. Even years later, as a patient or visitor, she walked the floors searching for colleagues and confirming that the hospital was in tip-top shape. Before returning to her nursing career, Bea was active in Hadassah and the Sisterhood of Temple Beth El. She also served as a beloved advisor to the local chapter of B'nai B'rith Girls. An avid Mah-Jongg player, Bea continued playing weekly until this past year. Bea was preceded in death, by her parents, Ben and Dora Schramm; her sister, Carolyn Ziegler, her son, David, and her husband of sixty-three years, Mathis Bush. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and John Roberts, daughter and partner, Carolyn Bush and Lora Corder; and daughter, Jennifer Bush Otte; grandchildren, Megan (Josh) Koller, Daniel Roberts, and Kathryn Otte. We are grateful to Karen Eubanks, devoted caregiver and friend, and the other caregivers who made Ms. Bea's final years as comfortable as possible. Pallbearers are John Roberts, Daniel Roberts, Josh Koller, Dr. Robert Montgomery, colleague, personal doctor and friend; Tom Gilbertson, lifelong family friend; and Wayne Heatherly, colleague and friend. Longtime friend, David Richer, is honorary pallbearer. A Funeral service will be held at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel, at 4:00pm on Sunday, September 2nd, with interment to follow at the New Jewish Cemetery.
