Betty R. Wallace Mashburn

Betty R. Wallace Mashburn, age 85, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 6, 2016. She was born December 21, 1930 and was preceded in death by parents, Charles and Laura Wallace. She was a lifelong resident of Knoxville, Tennessee. She was a former member of Oakwood Methodist Church and presently Bookwalter United Methodist Church of Inskip. She was a woman loved by everyone she came in contact with. She was a devoted wife for sixty-eight years and a loving mother to her sons and a faithful friend to many. She will be missed by many but we are assured that she is with her Lord who she served so well. She was a graduate of Knoxville High School in the class of 1948. Betty worked at Sear’s in the auditing department for twenty-six years and after retiring went to work at Rack Room and worked for nine years. She had many friends and often they would come by just to say hello and she loved her customers and friends. This was the highlight of her life, being able to visit with her friends she made along the way. She was very active in the PTA at Oakwood and Christenberry schools and this was her goal that her sons’ schools had the best representation parents could provide. Betty was very active in bowling leagues and loved to skate. She was also an avid gardener and enjoyed working in the yard and attending to her roses. Betty also attended to her parents for many years visiting and caring for them every day and went every day even when her father was in the nursing home for three years after her mother’s death in 1996. She is survived by husband, Lynn Mashburn; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Pat Mashburn, and Gary and Kathy Mashburn; grandson, Ryan Mashburn and his friend Jessica; sisters, Mary Ann Wallace and Jim Huff, Martha Wallace and Kermit Kitts; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm Sunday September 11, 2016, at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm with Rev. Fred West and Rev. Stephen Doyle officiating. The family and friends will meet at 10:45 am Monday September 12, 2016, at Lynnhurst Cemetery for an 11:00 am interment service.
