Betty McCampbell

Betty McCampbell was born and raised on a farm in Corryton, Tennessee, she passed away on March 7th at the age of 90. Betty was the youngest of seven siblings. A proud graduate of Gibbs High School, and Knoxville Business College. Betty was a standout student and athlete. She served as the captain of the girls' basketball team and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Honor Society. Following graduation, she worked for Children of the World and continued her love for sports, playing in Knoxville’s competitive basketball and softball leagues. It was during these years that Betty and Bobby fell in love and married in 1960 which began a partnership that would define the rest of her life. Together, they farmed and milked registered Holsteins until 1976 while raising their two daughters. When they transitioned from dairy to beef cattle, Betty remained right by Bobby’s side. She took great pride in being a farmer’s wife, eventually serving alongside Bobby as the Livestock Superintendent for the TVA & I Fair. Betty’s "green thumb" was legendary; she tended a massive garden every year, ensuring the family pantry was always stocked with canned fruits and vegetables. Her Sunday and Holiday dinners were the heartbeat of the family, bringing everyone together for a home-cooked meal. In her quieter moments, she found joy in the precision of cross-stitch, the challenge of word puzzles, working in her flowers and the peace of a good book. She was lovingly known as “Ninny” to her grandchildren. Her three grandchildren and great-grandchild were her pride and joy. Ninny supported Daniel in his deep connection to agriculture, a passion that had been passed down to him from his papaw and will now continue through her great-grandchild, Whitley. She shared her love of baking, reading, and crafting with Katelyn, passing down traditions that will be cherished for years to come. Ninny also passed along her gentle spirit to Katherine and shared her love for gardening, animals, and the outdoors. Each of these gifts helped shape the wonderful people her grandchildren have become today. Betty never had a bad word to say about anyone. She was a deeply positive person who lived her life by the Golden Rule. Her kindness and compassion were felt by everyone who knew her. Above all else, Betty loved her family. They were the center of her world and her greatest joy. She will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know and love her. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bobby McCampbell, her parents, Willis and Nettie Anderson; and siblings: Buck, Juanita, Ken, L.B., Edna, and Jodie. She is survived by her daughters Bobetta (Russ) Redden of Knoxville, Betsy (David) Stafford of Lenoir City. Her grandchildren Daniel (Deanna), Stafford, Katelyn Stafford, Katherine Redden and great grandchild Whitley Stafford. Family and friends will gather at Anderson-Gouffon Cemetery on Wednesday, March 11th at 11:00am for a graveside service.
