Bobby J. Sherwood

Bobby J. Sherwood, age 78, lifelong resident of Knoxville, passed into the presence of his Savior and Lord Jesus Christ, whom he faithfully loved and served and where his faith became sight on Sunday, November 4, 2018. He was an active member and Elder of the church he loved so much – Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church. Bobby loved being involved as a teacher in the Covenant Sunday school class and also enjoyed his men’s bible study group at Cherokee Country Club. He met the love of his life, Nancy, at Young Life, Frontier Ranch, and had a wonderful marriage of 58 years. They had an unwavering deep commitment to one another and made their marriage top priority. Bobby graduated from East High School and later, the University of Tennessee College of Business. He went on to be the 3rd generation owner of O.P. Jenkins Furniture Store in downtown Knoxville and also served in the Army branch of the US military as an artillery commander. Bobby will be remembered for his fervent prayer life, sacrificial love for his family, and his spiritual leadership. He had an unwavering faith in the Lord, was fun-loving, patient, and was an especially gifted handyman. He was an avid golfer playing 18 holes in a tournament the week of his death. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Lillian Jenkins Sherwood, in-laws, Margaret and Charles Dominick, and brother, Don Sherwood. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Dominick Sherwood, daughters and sons-in-law, Beth and Greg Helton of Katy, TX, and Meg and Terry Troutman of Knoxville, granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Emily and Justin Patzig, Elizabeth and Chris Hahn, Abby and Andy Fennell, and Calli and Brett Drummey; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Pat Sherwood, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Danny Anderton; his nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. A Celebration of Bobby’s life will be held at 4pm on Friday, November 9 at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the service. A private interment will be held at Highland Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church, 9132 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37923.
