Dr. Bruce Howe Lipscombe

Lipscombe, Dr. Bruce Howe - age 53, a loving husband and father, devoted and thoughtful brother, genuine and sincere friend and colleague to so many across the world passed away on Friday, July 25, 2014 at The University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. He is survived by his wife, Heather Reel Lipscombe and their son, Baby Lipscombe due in December (Knoxville); his daughter Ashleigh and son Daniel (Tasmania, Australia); his sisters, Lynn Turner (Victoria, Australia) Jenny Heather, and Debra Street (Tasmania, Australia); his mother-in-law, Genia Hewitt Reel Jackson (Maryville); his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jim and Carla Reel (Knoxville); in-laws Rachel and Scott Pfeiffer (Maryville), Ben Reel and Jennifer McQueen (Maryville), Jennifer and Chris Turney (Port St. Lucie, FL), and Jackson Reel (Knoxville); his grandfather, Raymond Hewitt; and his wonderful nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, both here and in Australia. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rolly and Joy (Howe) Lipscombe (Tasmania, Australia); and grandparents, Rita Howe (Tasmania), Ron and Kath Deed (Victoria), Ralph and Sarah Reel (New Market), and Joanne Hewitt (Morristown). As a Ph.D., educated electrical engineer, Bruce traveled the world throughout his life working in some of the most remote, disaster-stricken areas. His ever-valued work helped countless of people have electricity, running water, heat and air, and a safe place to live. He was a highly regarded industry expert with a profound understanding of energy, transmission, and major grid disruption. While he was most highly praised by his peers in both the international and domestic front for his noteworthy work, he was also able to capture the attention and love from everyone he encountered. His discernment and ethics were honorable, and his desire to help others was contagious. Bruce was born in Tasmania, Australia on February 27, 1961, and lovingly adored his family and friends there. As a United States Green Card Holder, he has lived in Knoxville, Tennessee for a little more than 3 years. He and his wife, Heather, were fortunate to spend precious time together traveling, laughing, and loving – even when he was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. He continued living and celebrating life each day and will be forever loved and remembered as having the sweetest soul, always full of excitement and passion for others, and as an amazing husband, father, brother, and friend. A celebration of Bruce’s life will be held on Saturday evening from 6:00 – 9:00pm at Two Rivers Pavilion (4450 Wrights Ferry Road, Louisville, TN 37777).
