Carl Boley

Boley, Carl M. – age 81, devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on January 29, 2011 in Knoxville. He was preceded in death by a son Jimmy, his parents, Charles and Josie Boley, brothers, Herbert, Charles, and Luther; sister, Margaret Rogers. He is survived by his wife Bobbie; daughter, Beth Anderson; son, Bill Boley; grandson, Chase Anderson; granddaughters Hayley Milam and husband Aaron, and Lauren Anderson. Carl was born in Decatur, Alabama on July 6, 1929. He and his wife Bobbie lived in Sheffield, Alabama, for thirty five years before relocating to Knoxville in 1988. While living in Sheffield, he was an active member of First Baptist Church, serving as deacon, trustee, Sunday School Department Superintendent, and on numerous church committees. In Knoxville, Carl was an active member of Central Baptist Church, Bearden. He was an army veteran serving as a platoon sergeant with a combat engineer battalion in Korea from 1951-52. Carl attended Cumberland University and the University of North Alabama on athletic scholarships and played football, basketball and baseball. He earned a B.S. Degree from the University of North Alabama, an M.A. Degree from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University, and completed additional graduate level courses at Auburn University. Carl was employed for thirty-four years in the Sheffield City School System. He served one year as teacher, eleven years as principal of Sheffield High, four years as assistant superintendent, and eighteen years as Superintendent of Education. He also served one year as Director of Public Relations for the Alabama Education Association. After Bobbie and Carl relocated to Knoxville, Carl was employed as Personnel Director for the Anderson Companies. He retired from that position December 31, 2007. In Sheffield and Knoxville, he was involved as a member of a number of boards and community activities including the Alabama State Mental Health Board, Kiwanis Club, Y.M.C.A., Junior Achievement, United Way, Salvation Army, Project Grad Knoxville and Boys and Girls Clubs. Funeral service Wednesday 6:00 pm at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with Dr. Larry Fields officiating. Interment service Friday 10:00 am c.s.t. at Greenview Memorial Park in Florence, Alabama.
