Dr. Cecil Darrell Rowe

Dr. Cecil Darrell Rowe passed away at his home in Knoxville on Saturday, February 24, 2024. Cecil was born in Livingston, Tennessee to Cecil Edison and Estella Webb Rowe on July 23, 1931. He graduated from Knoxville’s Central High School where he met his future wife, Caroline Bailey. Both Cecil and Caroline graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1952, and married soon after. He entered the US Air Force as a commissioned officer and was stationed in Crete. During his stay in Crete, his first daughter Cecilia was born, joining her brother Tim. When he returned, he entered the University of Tennessee School of Medicine in Memphis, Tennessee, later practicing general medicine in Jefferson City and Sevierville for three years before returning to UT Hospital to specialize in anesthesiology. Upon finishing his residency, Cecil practiced at Fort Sanders and Children’s Hospitals before forming the DOR Anesthesiologist Group with Drs. Orville Duncan and Turan Ozdil. The DOR was the primary anesthesiology group for Children’s and later Park West Hospital, where he served until his retirement in 1997. While at Park West Hospital, Cecil served two separate terms as the Chief of Staff for the hospital. Cecil was a member of Church Street United Methodist Church in the Pathfinders Sunday School Class in Knoxville for over 50 years. Cecil’s prime interests were his family, hiking, flying and his profession as a physician. Cecil was preceded in death by his mother and father; his daughter Lynda Rowe Faulkner, who passed away in December; his three brothers, Kenneth Rowe, Fred Rowe and James Rowe. He leaves behind his wife Caroline Bailey Rowe; sons Tim Rowe (Emily) and Tom Rowe (Jan); daughters Cecilia Dykes (Bob) and Elizabeth Naab (Don); son-in-law Mike Faulkner and step-daughter KesLee Chessor (Eric); grandchildren Craig Rowe (Jen), Mallory Sunderland (Chad), Haley Heath, Andrew Jones (Kayla Boyles), Rachel Dykes, Austin Naab and Hollin Naab; as well as 5 great grandchildren, Bethany Rowe, Samantha Rowe, Lincoln Sunderland, Lawson Sunderland and Hayes Chessor. A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose–Mann, 6200 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, with Reverend Jan Wade officiating. No visitation is planned. A private burial for family will be held immediately after. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Church Street United Methodist Church, P.O.
