Charles Henry Hatchett

Hatchett, Charles Henry – born January 31, 1918 in Huntland, TN and was reborn by accepting Christ as Savior, in 1928. He left home 1935, graduating from Central High School, Winchester, TN. He entered the University of Tennessee in 1935, and met Jackie at the Grill in the basement of Miller’s Department Store, in 1938. He married Jacqueline Wilds on June 15, 1940. He entered Fort Knox Armored Force School in 1943, sailed for Europe in January, 1945 and returned in 1946. He proudly served during WWII as a mechanic in Patton’s Army. He was ordained as Deacon at Bell Avenue Baptist Church, in 1948. He was a faithful servant of the Lord at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church since 1955. He “worked like a dog” at Clapp Tire Company and Dowling Tire Service and started his own business – Hatchett Tires – in the spring of 1960. Mr. Hatchett lost his wife Jacqueline in February, of 2000. He married an “Angel” Zoe Lee Heifner on July 11, 2003 and lost his son, Richard (Dick) in October of 2005. His life-long hobbies were fishing, gardening, woodworking, and playing with family. He has seven living grandchildren, and one deceased, eleven great-grandchildren, seven step- grandchildren. He has led countless people to Christ and taught the Bible to students from ages youth to senior adults. He was a Godly servant of the Lord, parent, grandparent, great-grandparent, fisherman, story-teller, and Man of God. He has fished every water hole in East Tennessee, and some in Alaska. He leaves behind his children Brenda and husband (John) Holder, and Robert (Bob) and wife Cindy Hatchett. Grateful to be part of his life, loving wife Zoe Lee Heifner, and brought sunshine and laughter to her and her daughters, Zoe Anna Shorthouse, Elizabeth Wood, and Eleanor Godfrey. He loved their children as his own grand kids. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Monday, December 22, 2014 at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church with funeral services to follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Kent Williams, and Dr. Mike Boyd, officiating. Family and friends will meet Tuesday at 1:45 pm at Highland Memorial Cemetery for a 2:00 pm graveside service. In lieu of flowers the family request donations may be made to The Lottie Moon offering at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church.
