!!Updated Funeral Service Information Due to Weather!! Charlie “Arnie” Butler Jr, age 71, of Knoxville, TN, passed away on January 26, 2026. Arnie was a cherished member of the Knoxville community, known for his warm spirit and unwavering kindness. As a devoted member of Grace Covenant Baptist Church, he dedicated his life to his faith and his family, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those around him. Arnie retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory after a lengthy career as a chemical engineer. He was especially beloved by the children at Grace Covenant Baptist Academy, where he filled their Fridays with laughter and joy by bringing ice cream to share. His enthusiasm for life and generosity toward others were just a few of the many qualities that made him so special. Arnie is preceded in death by his mother, Peggy Jo Butler; sisters, Trinia Butler and Renee Butler; mother-in-law, Muriel Judd Bull; father-in-law, Kincel Fred Bull; and sister-in-law, Angela Solomon. He survived and will be greatly missed by his wife, Kimberly Butler; children, Charlie Butler (Angela), Jacob Moody (Lauren), Emmanuel “EJ” Roberts (Elizabeth), Erin Palmer (Cedric), sister-in-law, Maria Hill (Mark), special adopted son, Cameron Faircloth (Teresa); grandchildren, Ava, Emma, Stetson, Carter, Millie, Julian, Cameron and Matthew; uncle, Syd Smith Sr; nieces and nephews, Tara, Chris, Braxton, Javen, Ariya, Robbie and Syd, Jr.; special cousin and brother in spirit, Wayne Judd (June). The family would like to thank Dr. Richard Lee, Emma, Paige and the other nurses and staff at Tennessee Cancer for the wonderful care they provided, Arnie loved them all. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 8th from 3:00-5:00pm at Grace Covenant Baptist Church (9956 Dutchtown Rd, Knoxville, TN 37923) with a funeral service to follow, Rev. Dr. Alan Smith officiating. Family and friends will gather at Lynnhurst Cemetery on Monday, February 9th at 11:00am for a graveside service. The family asks for you to wear your UT Orange in remembrance of Arnie’s love for The Vols.
