Daisy "Debbie" Millikan

Millikan, Daisy Bennett (Debbie) - age 87 of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away peacefully Monday, December 10, 2012. Debbie was a member of First Baptist Church Concord. She was born on June 8, 1925 in Williamson County, Tennessee to Abraham Lincoln Bennett and Bettie Katherine Poteet Bennett. She later moved to Nashville, Tennessee after her father passed away. Her mother and adopted father, Eugene Edward Estes raised her in a Christian home and she attended David Libscomb. While working in Nashville she met her husband of 52 years, Alfred Garnett Millikan Senior (Barney). They enjoyed a wonderful life of travel, missions, raising their children, and being active in their church. In 1972, Barney and Debbie moved their family to a beautiful farm in Knoxville where Debbie lived the rest of her life. Debbie had a servant's heart and enjoyed using her gifts to help others. She was very active in the WMU and mission projects at her church, the Arthritis Club of Knoxville, and many other community activities. She loved singing and had a heart full of praise. Her grandmother taught her as a young girl to reach her hand up to Jesus and he would never let go. Debbie believed and lived these words her entire life. She loved the Lord with all her heart. Proceeded in death by her parents and husband. Debbie is survived by children: Alfred Garnett Millikan Junior, James Tanksley Millikan, Katherine Millikan Davis and husband Guy Davis, Bennett Elihu Millikan and wife Meg Jones Millikan. Grandchildren: Margaret Eleanor Millikan (Ellie) and Bennett Elihu Millikan, Junior (Bo); sister in law Frances Millikan Parris and several special nieces, nephews and cousins. Her whole family brought her such joy and she took great delight in being a grandmother. The family will gather at Lynnhurst Cemetery for a graveside service. Receiving of friends will be at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel on Thursday, December 13, 2012 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 6:00 pm with Dr. Larry Fields and Rev. Steve Peek officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Mission of Hope, 6030 Industrial Heights Drive, Knoxville, TN 37909, or a charity of your choice.
