David F. Irwin

David Franklin Irwin age 89 of Knoxville, TN passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 12, 2023. He was born on March 22, 1933 grew up in the Alice Bell community and accepted Christ at Gillespie Avenue Baptist Church. He graduated from Central High school in 1951. He served in the United States Army, where he was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. Upon his return from serving his country, he graduated from Carson Newman College in 1960. He was a longtime employee of Knoxville Utilities Board for 34 years and took early retirement in 1995. He married Freda Faye Aiken on Feb 16, 1962 and they were lifelong partners for the last 61 years. They resided in Knoxville and were members of Central Baptist Church of Bearden since 1963. He was a deacon, sang in the choir and worked in the nursery with 2-3 year olds for 30 years. He was a kind, gentle, compassionate, selfless man with a servant’s heart and faithful to his God. David was preceded in death by his parents, Nank and Ruth Irwin and brothers Bob and Bill Irwin. Surviving sisters are Anna Ruth Foster and Carolyn Easterly. Family members left to cherish his memory are his wife Faye; children and spouses: Suzanne and Roger McFalls of Sevierville, Phillip and Dawn Irwin of Knoxville; grandchildren and spouses; Rachel and Justin Beasley of Sevierville, Sarah and Zach Fleming of Kingsport, Matthew and Korrey McFalls of Sevierville and Brittany and Michael Sanderson of Knoxville; 5 great-grandchildren; Connor, Parker and Audrey Beasley and Kylee and Blair Fleming. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 16 from 11:30-1:30pm in the fellowship hall at Central Baptist Church of Bearden, 6300 Deane Hill Drive Knoxville TN 37919. A Celebration of Life will begin at 2:00pm in the sanctuary, with Rev. Mark Moreland and Rev. Tim Earl officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in David’s memory to Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Emerald Youth Foundation or a charity of your choice.
