Remembering Debra Louise Harless In loving remembrance, with both sadness and gratitude, we celebrate the extraordinary life of Debra Louise Harless, who passed away on November 27, 2024 at the age of 71. Known affectionately as Debbie or Deb, she was a soul whose creativity, compassion, and strength provided a depth of presence that touched each life she encountered. Born on May 25, 1953 in Knoxville, TN, the second of five children to parents Rufus Calvin, “R.C” and Mary Lou (Mynatt) Harless, Debbie grew into a person of unmistakable kindness and character with a heart for service. From a young age, Debbie cultivated a love for music, education and ministry. A proud graduate of Belmont University in Nashville with a degree in music, Deb furthered her studies at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY, earning a Master of Divinity. This education not only began her career but also served as an inspiration to the thousands of students she met and served on college campuses throughout the U.S. She especially encouraged young women students who were journeying into ministry, believing in them when few others did. Debra’s life was a rich tapestry woven with many moments of joy, purpose, and resilience. She was marvelously unique and generous with her talents and abilities. Whether designing a program for an event celebrating His Holiness the Dalai Lama, earning Volunteer of the Year alongside Donnis at Indiana Women’s Prison, or capturing backstage moments with Garth Brooks, Deb had a soul for service, transforming her everyday moments into beautiful memories. A gifted genealogist later in life, with a special love for the history of her East Tennessee home, Deb was affectionately given the name of “The Wizard” for her remarkable ability to unravel exceptionally complicated family lineages to the delight of her clients, friends and family. Deb’s life will be celebrated in late April at a private gathering in the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee. Debra is survived by her spouse and partner of 42 years, Donnis E. Minx, their daughter Chandra Stern-Eichacker and grand children Noah Stern and Georgiana Stern. Debra’s spirit lives on in the love she shared, the lives she uplifted, and the memories that will forever warm our hearts. We bid farewell to a remarkable individual whose legacy of love and creativity will continue to inspire us all.
