DeLois Thurman Kerr

DeLois Thurman Kerr age 85, of Knoxville, on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 the arms of Jesus welcomed Dee Kerr to eternal life in heaven. Victory over death is hers with no more pain or suffering. Delois was born November 23, 1935, the youngest of three children, to Harry Herbert and Bessie Sarah Thurman of Chattanooga, TN. Preceded in death by her brother, Herbert Allen Thurman of San Francisco, CA. She is survived by loving sister, June Thurman Ackerman of Maryville, TN. She attended Chattanooga Central and Chattanooga College, and became a career woman with her CPIN in insurance. She was a member of Insurance Women and Order of Eastern Star, Star Light Chapter. Dee met the love of her life at St. Mary’s Hospital coffee shop in January, and they married in April 1955. Jack D. Kerr entered the gates of heaven to await Dee August 22, 2002. Married 47 years they had one daughter, Linda K. Stooksbury. Dee always said she finally got her son when Linda married Kenneth Stooksbury May of 1976. Momma Dee adored her granddaughters, Jill Marie Fairbanks and husband Todd Paul Fairbanks and Jami Michelle Aylor and husband Joseph Shannon Aylor. Grandma Dee treasured her great-grandchildren: Jasmine Renea Fairbanks, Maci Sloan Aylor, Riley Blythe Aylor and Jackson Stone Aylor. DeLois was a loyal friend and the kindest person you will ever meet. Her family, friends, church and career filled her life. She retired from Traveler’s Insurance to become a full time caregiver to her father, husband’s cousin, mother-in-law and mother. The words that best describe Dee are kind, teacher, mentor, and prayer warrior. She served Oakwood Baptist Church in many areas during the past 67 years. Most recent was teacher for 20 plus years of The Homemaker Sunday School Class. Thank you ladies for being loving faithful friends. We want to thank the neighbors at Villas of Cedar Crossing, caregivers at Morning Pointe Powell and the caring staff at West Hills Healthcare. Due to the pandemic services will be graveside officiated by Rev. Tony Earl and vocalist Kristen Reed Saturday, September 18, 2021. Family and friends may call at their convenience from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Friday, September 17, 2021 at Rose Funeral & Cremation-Broadway. Meet at the main gates of Greenwood Cemetery Tazewell Pike at 10:45 am for an 11:00 am service. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to Shriners Hospital (110 Conn Terrace, Lexington, KY 40508).
