Doris S. Bishop-Pratt

Bishop-Pratt, Doris S. – age 92, of Knoxville, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at her home. She was born June 16th, 1921 in Mt. Olive, North Carolina and moved to Knoxville in 1958. Doris raised 3 children as a “stay at home mom.” She was active at Bearden United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School, was a lifetime member of United Methodist Women; helped with Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and was active in Deane Hill Garden Club. Mrs. Pratt enjoyed bridge and played in various Bridge clubs. She loved visiting with her grand and great grandchildren. Doris was a Gold Star mother and wore her pin proudly. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, William B. Bishop; husband of 10 years, Leonard Pratt; son, William B. “Billy” Bishop, II (killed in action in Vietnam); parents, John L. and Louise W. Smith; brothers, John L. Smith, Jr., Ralph H. Smith. Doris is survived by her son, Charles R. “Randy” Bishop and wife Regina, of Knoxville; daughter, Vickie Bishop Summers, of Loganville, Georgia; grandchildren, John Robert Summers, of Monroe, Georgia, Richard Franklin Summers and wife Kelly, of Winder, Georgia, Lee Michael Summers and wife Lacey, of Monroe, Georgia, James F. “Jimmy” Bishop, of Knoxville; great grandchildren, Ashlyn and Slade Summers, of Monroe, Georgia, Brooklyn, Quinn, and Lawson Summers, of Winder, Georgia; Jacob, Lucas, and Marissa Bishop, of Knoxville. A heartfelt thanks to Lisa McDowell, of Knoxville, for her wonderful care and love given to Doris over the past year. The funeral will be on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 6:00 pm at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with Rev. Cabel Trent officiating. Family and friends will then gather on Sunday at 12:45 pm at Highland Memorial Cemetery for a 1:00 pm interment service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Billy Bishop Memorial Scholarship fund, Bearden United Methodist Church, 4407 Sutherland Ave., Knoxville, TN 37919.
