Mrs. Doris Lee Collier Trent

Doris Lee Collier Trent, age 87, died Friday February 17, 2017, just 29 days after the death of her beloved husband of 68 years, Reverend Cabel W. Trent. Doris was a gracious and loving servant of the Lord and will be missed by many. She faithfully worked alongside her husband in his ministry as he pastored churches throughout the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church. Doris was a member of Church Street United Methodist Church, where she was a member and teacher of the Pathfinders Sunday School Class. She was a member and held offices in the United Methodist Women at the local, district and conference levels. She was born November 18, 1929 to the late Elbert Carl and Sallie Pauline Collier in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, she graduated from high school at the age of 15 and enrolled in Hiwassee College, where she met Cabel. They were married June 2, 1948. She later continued her education at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where she was a member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, graduating with honors in 1974. Her elementary school teaching career spanned many years in Virginia, Georgia and Tennessee. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Elbert Carl Collier, Jr., and her sister, Mildred Bess. She is survived by sisters, Betty Tackett and Patty & husband Pete Ison of Jacksonville, Florida; brother, Lynn Collier of Big Stone Gap, Virginia; sister-in-law, Joyce Collier of Knoxville and brother-in-law, Bill Bess of Orlando, Florida, as well as several nieces and nephews. A Service of Death and Resurrection will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Church Street United Methodist Church with Bishop Richard Looney, Reverend Barbara Clark, Reverend William Fowler and Reverend. Andy Ferguson officiating. Friends will be received from 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Family and friends will meet at Lynnhurst Cemetery immediately following the service for interment.
