Dorothy Douthat Jeffers

Jeffers, Dorothy Douthat - age 88, of Knoxville departed peacefully at Mercy Hospice on March 18, 2011. Dorothy was retired from the Knoxville Credit Bureau and a current member of Bearden United Methodist Church, and past member of Washington Pike and Burlington United Methodist churches. She was preceded in death by husband, William (Monk) Howard Jeffers; parents, O.C. and Zeffie Douthat; sister, Ruby Nell Gregg; and brothers, W.D., Ralph, George, Thomas, and Gearl Douthat. Survived by sons and daughter-in-Iaws, Bill and Paulette Jeffers of Winston-Salem, NC, Charles and Janet Jeffers of New Smyrna Beach, FL and Ron and Katy Jeffers of Knoxville, TN. She also leaves behind a brother and sister-in-law, J.W. and Johnie Douthat, sister, Ethel Davis, and sister and brother-in-law, Gearlene and Keith Horner. Also she leaves Sisters-in laws; Edith Clowers, Louise Douthat, Judy Douthat, Ruth Jeffers, Lena Jeffers. Special Cousin, Pauline Justice and Special friends, Shirley and Coy Freeman. Dorothy is also survived by grandchildren, Stacey Tritt, Jacqui Tritt, Stephanie Belew, Marty Sparks, Janet Braun, Denise Jeffers, Rick Jones, Amanda Davenport, Jeanie Keith, and Jill Johnson. In addition, she is survived by 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Dot was known for her delicious cooking, entertaining and sewing abilities. She also was very active in the church and even though frail in health she volunteered to wash sheets and clothes for the Family Promise Program sponsored by the church until she was no longer physically able. The family would also like to express their thanks to the staff at Williamsburg Villas and Mercy Hospice Care. Celebration of Life will be on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at 4:00 P.M. at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel on Kingston Pike with Rev. Michael Sluder officiating. Interment will be 11:00 am Monday, March 21, at Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery, in Mohawk, TN. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Autism Speaks, 5455 Wilshire Blvd. Suite 2250, Los Angeles, California 90036, in memory of Dorothy D. Jeffers.
