Dorris "Dana" Henderson Fisher

Dorris (Dana) Henderson Fisher, 84, of Knoxville, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus and went to be with the Lord on Friday, 30 September 2022. Beginning in early childhood, Dana loved attending Sunday school and church service at Highland Park Baptist Church pastored by Lee Roberson, founder of Tennessee Temple University and Temple Baptist Seminary in Chattanooga. She loved singing old hymns and was a member of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church in Knoxville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nick Curtiss Henderson, Ruby Fowler Henderson Page, and her husband of 37 years Claude M. (Buddy) Fisher. Dana was born on 21 September 1938 in Chattanooga, Tennessee and was a 1956 graduate of Central High School. Driven by a lifelong desire for learning, Dana attended Chattanooga State Technical Institute (Chattanooga State Community College) and the University of Tennessee where she enrolled in courses of interest. Her personal enjoyment of fashion led to employment in fashion merchandising, beginning in sales and advancing to an assistant buyer position for Miller Brother’s flagship department store in Chattanooga. After relocating to Knoxville, Dana continued in her career with several companies. After leaving her career pursuits, Dana focused on home, gardening, and enjoyed watching Buddy’s football teams compete throughout the season. Dana’s hobbies reflected her love of pets, wildlife, birdwatching, music, and cooking. Family gatherings were enjoyed with parents, sister, son, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family. She enjoyed preparing stovetop cornbread cooked in a cast iron skillet which she learned from her great-grandma Sallie. Through Buddy, she became a fan of high school and University of Tennessee football and enjoyed watching Aaron Rogers quarterback the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. Left to cherish the memories are her sister, Jackie Brandon (James), son, Vic Ledford (Dana), stepdaughter, Kelly Helton, grandchildren, Wes Ledford (Allison), Jeff Ledford (Whitney), Grant Helton, great-grandchildren Liam, Aspen, and Colt Ledford, and nephews, Pastor Tony Brandon (Eleanor), Keith Brandon and extended families. A graveside service for family will be Friday, 4 November at 11:00 am at the Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church Historical Cemetery with Clay Harrington, Pastor to Senior Adults presiding. A visitation will follow at 2:00-3:00 pm followed by a Celebration of Life from 3:00-4:00 pm at the Cedar Springs Presbyterian Chapel.
