Ebenezer Rajkumar Vedamuthu

Ebenezer (Eb) Rajkumar Vedamuthu of Knoxville, Tennessee (formerly of Corvallis, Oregon and Adair Village, Oregon) died at the age of 85 on June 8, 2018 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Eb was a devout follower of Christ—a member of Solway United Methodist Church in Knoxville and College United Methodist Church in Philomath, Oregon. Highly respected in his profession as a dairy scientist, he was a recognized by the American Dairy Scientist Association and often consulted in the food and flavor industry after his retirement from Quest International in 2000. Eb was preceded in death by his father, Darium Vedamuthu, his mother, Katherine Savarirayan Vedamuthu, and his wife, Judith Ann Hoeye Vedamuthu. He is survived by his brother Prabhu Vedamuthu (wife Ann) of Sydney, Australia; sisters Kausie Thomas (husband Henry) of Chennai, India; Ratni Ebenezer (husband Ebby) of Knoxville, Tennessee; and Jeyanthi Sundara (husband Sonny) of Knoxville, Tennessee; sons Jonathan of Knoxville, Tennessee and Daniel (wife Tiffany) of Rochester, Minnesota; and his grandsons Jasper and Cedric (sons of Daniel and Tiffany). Eb was born in Vellore, India on June 23, 1932. He received a Baccalaureate Degree in Zoology from the University of Madras in 1954 and an Indian Dairy Diploma in Bangalore in 1956. In 1959 he traveled to the United States to continue his studies in dairy science. He received a Master of Science in Agriculture, Dairy Manufacturing at the University of Kentucky in 1962. In 1965 he earned a PhD in Microbiology and Hygiene from Oregon State University. He additionally completed post-doctoral work in his field. While a doctoral candidate at Oregon State University, he met and married his wife Judith Ann Hoeye. They were married on August 17, 1963. His career took him to Ames, Iowa; Bradenton, Florida; and Rochester, Minnesota. He and his wife retired to Adair Village, Oregon until her death when he moved to be close to family in Knoxville, Tennessee. There will be a visitation and burial service on Tuesday, June 12 at 2pm at the Berry Highland West Memorial Park in Knoxville, Tennessee. A memorial service will be scheduled.
