Edwin Patton Davis

Davis, Edwin Patton, age 85 of Knoxville, formerly of Russellville, Tn. Died at his home on Monday, September 3, 2012, after a second battle with colon cancer. He was a current member of West Hills Presbyterian Church, and a former Deacon at Cedar Springs and Fountain City Presbyterian Churches. He was also a veteran of World War ll, United States Armed Forces Institute; was infantry trained, and served in the Philippines and in Japan. Ed was the owner of Davis Carpets on Broadway for 40 years, and enjoyed a long career in furniture and carpet sales. Ed was proud of being a member of the First Families of Tennessee. His hobbies included Ballroom dancing and socializing with his great friends at the John T. O'Connor dance club and playing the piano. Ed is preceded in death by his father Emory Arthur Davis of Russellville, Tn., who was the owner of several canning factories in East Tennessee; his mother Eva Fay Bewley Davis, a piano teacher in Russellville, Morristown and Fountain City; brother Arthur Davis, Jr. of Knoxville. He is survived by his wife June Nelson Davis of Knoxville, Tn.; son Lt. Col. Edwin Patton Davis, Jr., M.D., Emergency Physician in the Air Force Special Operations Command, Hurlburt Field, Florida; daughter Janet Davis Watts, Teacher, North Augusta, South Carolina; grandchildren Megan Mansir Davis of Columbia, S.C., Eva Elizabeth Watts, student at Clemson University, S.C.; William Davis Watts of Charleston, S.C., student at College of Charleston, S.C.; Edwin Patton Davis, lll (Tripp) of Valparaiso, Fl. Other survivors include Ginger Smith Davis, daughter-in-law, Valparaiso, Fl., and Larry Eugene Watts, son-in-law, North Augusta, S.C. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, September 6, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at West Hills Presbyterian Church, 7600 Bennington Drive, Knoxville, Tn. 37919, with Dr. Fred Fowler officiating. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Bethesda Cemetery in Morristown, Tn. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.
