Elizabeth Jane Johnston

Johnston, Elizabeth Jane – age 101 of Knoxville passed away Wednesday August 8, 2012. Born in Moneymore Northern Ireland in 1911, she moved to Canada with her family in 1930 and then to New Rochelle New York in 1931. Elizabeth married Johnnie Johnston in January of 1933 and they resided in Jersey City New Jersey where the three eldest children were born. In September 1950 the family immigrated to Northern Ireland where they farmed for 8 years, during that time their youngest daughter Loretta was born. Due to family commitments they returned to the U.S.A to run the family business in New Rochelle New York. In 1962 her husband Johnnie died suddenly leaving her to care for their youngest daughter age 10 years old. In 1973 she moved to Norwalk, Conn where she resided for 18 years and then moved to Knoxville with her son Jack's family. Jenny as she was affectionately known was a homemaker and loved to have her family visit her. She loved nestling her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was interested in all they did and achieved. Elizabeth was an ardent biographic reader and skilled at crossword puzzles. She was blest with good health until she reached her late 90's, when she began to suffer from Alzheimer's disease. Elizabeth was also preceded in death by her daughter Loretta Charlotte May Steelman. She is survived by her son William John Johnston wife Veronica of Knoxville; daughter Elizabeth Jean Birney of Lisnaskea, Northern Ireland; son, Wesley George Johnston and wife Nancy of Irving, Texas; grandchildren, Kimberley Ann Price, Stacie Lynn Peoples, Diane Elizabeth Simpson, Alan John Birney, Todd Baxter Johnston, Eric Jon Moberg, Gregory Wesley Moberg, Jess Alan Harper and Jill Delane Heath; great grandchildren, Noah Elijah Price, Kailyn Elizabeth Price, Ronan Alexander Peoples, Rylyn Gabrielle Peoples, Megan Elizabeth Simpson, Peter William John Simpson. A celebration of Elizabeth's life will be held at 7pm Friday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel. Interment on the family gravesite at Beechwood Cemetery in New Rochelle New York.
