Ellen Cook Fogarty

FOGARTY, ELLEN COOK - 88, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 13, 2013, after a brief struggle with cancer. Born in Memphis, Tennesssee, she was the daughter of the late James H. Cook, Sr., and Ruth Yetzer Cook. Ellen was a member for years of Holy Ghost Church and later All Saints Church. In her younger years she was an active member of a number of Catholic guilds and groups. Ellen graduated from Knoxville Catholic High School and attended the University of Tennessee. In addition to raising six children, Ellen helped her husband Paul with his first business Fogarty Studio. Family and friends were Ellen's passion and delight. She loved to host and entertain and always made holidays and family events special. She was very interested in ceramics and taught lessons in their home. In addition to her parents, Ellen is preceded in death by her brother, Lt. Col. James H. Cook, Jr.; her son, Paul J. Fogarty; and her sister-in-law, Barbara Wuethrich. Ellen is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Paul T. Fogarty, Jr.; four daughters, Patricia Fogarty Slagle, Knoxville; Irene Carney and husband, Mike, Knoxville; Mary Morgan and husband, Ron, Frederick, MD, Therese Fogarty, Duluth, GA; son, Michael Fogarty and wife, Deborah, Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Stephen Slagle and wife, Stephanie, Hillsborough, NC, Katie Morgan and husband, Nelson, Gaithersburg MD, Caroline Carney, Knoxville, Christopher Fogarty and wife, Jessica, Tullahoma TN, Timothy Fogarty and wife, Jorenda, Knoxville, Brian Fogarty, Knoxville, Lisa Reilly and husband, Eric, Ooltewah, TN; great grandchildren, Natalie Slagle, Henry Morgan, Katie Reilly, Connor Reilly, Catherine Fogarty, John Michael Fogarty, Claire Fogarty, Leah Fogarty, and Isabella Fogarty; dearest special friends, Sue Conway, Dorothy Colson, Irene Groseclose, Teresa Dewine, and the late Betty Cooper. Ellen was a wonderful mother and loving wife. She instilled Christian values in her children which in turn have been passed down to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
