Faye A. Irwin

Faye Aiken Irwin, age 89 of Knoxville, TN passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 14, 2023. She was born May 11, 1934 and grew up in Harlan County, KY until her sophomore year in high school. She graduated in 1952 from Jacksboro High School and earned a degree in nursing from East Tennessee Baptist Hospital in 1955. She retired from Baptist Hospital after 35 years of faithful service. She felt the calling to be a hospice nurse her last 10 years prior to retirement and served many families with end-of-life care. She was kind, gracious, patient, compassionate, a perfectionist, selfless and above all…a Godly Christian woman. She was most passionate about her role as a wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to so many. Earth lost a special woman…Heaven gained an Angel! Faye married David Irwin on February 16, 1962. They resided in Knoxville and were members of Central Baptist Church of Bearden since 1963. She was a member of the choir and served in many ministries of the church as long as her health permitted. She was on the pastoral search committee that placed former pastor Bill Bruster, started the Bible drill program, worked with the GA’s and served as camp nurse for out-of-town youth events. She loved serving others and was always willing to help out the church, any way it called on her. Faye was preceded in death by her husband David who passed earlier this year after 61 years of marriage. Also preceded by parents J.S. and Maxie Aiken and her brother Gene. Family left to cherish her memory include her children and spouses: Suzanne and Roger McFalls of Sevierville, Phillip and Dawn Irwin of Knoxville; grandchildren and spouses Rachel and Justin Beasley of Sevierville, Sarah and Zack Fleming of Kingsport, Matthew and Korrey McFalls of Sevierville, Brittany and Michael Sanderson of Knoxville; five great-grandchildren, Connor, Parker and Audrey Beasley, Kylee and Blair Fleming; and other extended family and friends. A special thanks to sister-in-law Carolyn Easterly and Janet Johnson who were her dedicated and loving caregivers while she was still at home. To ALL the staff at Morning Pointe of Hardin Valley for loving her so well and making her 16 months there “like home” and to Stephanie at Amedisys Hospice for her compassion and tremendous care. We can’t thank you each enough for loving our mother so well! The family will receive friends on Monday, September 18th from 12:00-2:00pm in the Sanctuary at Central Baptist Bearden, 6300 Deane Hill Drive, Knoxville, TN, 37919. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:15pm, with Rev. Mark Moreland and Rev. Tim Earl officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Baptist Bearden or the charity of your choice.
