Frances Young Torbett

Torbett, Frances Young, 88, died peacefully Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Shannnondale. She was born April 3, 1924 in Knoxville to Dr. Robert Young and Naomi Fulkerson Young. Frances was a 1942 graduate of Knoxville High School. She attended Stephens College and University of Tennessee. A lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church, she served many positions over her lifetime. Frances was very active in the American Cancer Society and the Arthritis Foundation. She was honored by the Arthritis Foundation for her devotion and service to them. Frances was a member of Cavett Station chapter of DAR. She was a regent from 1980-1983. Frances and her husband Vincent spent part of the year at Longmeadow, the historical family farm in Surgoinsville. It has been in the Young family since 1763. Frances had a passion for playing bridge. She was happiest at the card table with friends. Frances was predeceased by her husband of 37 years Vincent Torbett who died in December 2007. Also her step-daughter Karen Torbett. Surviving are her brother Buddy Young and wife Jessie of Surgoinsville, her sister Georgiana Pearson and husband Pat of Marietta, GA and her Sister-in-Law Velma Rhae Torbett of Winston Salem, NC, step-sons Mike Torbett of Macon GA and Vernon Torbett of Oregon, her nieces and nephews: Mike Pearson and wife Dutchess of GA, Patricia Hobbs and husband Paul of GA, David Pearson and wife Jennifer of GA, Sylvia Oberle and husband Terry of NC and Valecia Crisafulli and husband Larry of Washington DC as well as several great nieces and nephews and numerous cousins. Frances loved her immediate and extended family. The family wishes to thank all the nurses and CNA's who helped take care of her these last several years. Special thanks go to Jean Cook and Angie Miller for their love and care. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 8 at 10:30am at First Presbyterian Church with a reception immediately after. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Cemetery at 1pm.
