George Herbert Dixon, Jr.

George Herbert Dixon, Jr. (Tubby) – age 82, passed away at home on Thursday, July 28, 2016. Born in Chattanooga, George grew up in the family home on Signal Mountain. He attended Baylor and Chattanooga Central High School where he played football. Following service in the Air Force, he attended the University of Tennessee and was a Member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He was in the tool/woodworking business for over 50 years working first with Wallace Saw Works and then his own business George Dixon Enterprises. It was common knowledge that George could solve any problem – just dial 1-800-call George! George was preceded in death by his parents George Herbert Dixon, Sr. and Peggie Royer Dixon. He is survived by his wife Patricia Alexander Crumpton and Gracie his faithful canine companion. He is also survived by his daughters, Libby Laitinen (Carl), Cathy Johnston (Kevin); son, George H. Dixon, III (Christine); stepdaughter, Jennifer Crumpton Yonke; stepson, Jeffrey Todd Crumpton; 7 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Ann Dixon Schimpf; nieces, Peggie Schimpf Hixon; nephews, Buck, George and Gary (Happy) Schimpf; several great nieces and one great nephew. George is a long time member of the Episcopal Church of Ascension and was an active member of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew. His favorite passion was GRACEPOINT an Episcopal Retreat Center where he spent many hours serving on the GracePoint Board and building birdhouse kits for the campers plus any other chores which needed attention. A celebration of life service to honor George will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, August 3, 2016.
