Gerald Wayne Cox

Gerald Wayne Cox, born in Knoxville, Tennessee on January 18, 1941 died on June 6, 2015 surrounded by his loving family and friends. Known as Jerry to most and as 'Gimp' to many, he spent six years with the FBI in Washington DC. After moving back to Knoxville he became a long time employee of Beaty Chevrolet and then held positions as Shop Foreman and Service Manager for several other local car dealerships before earning an AAS in Electrical Engineering from Chattanooga State Community College and working on various TVA and Federal facilities. Jerry enjoyed many outdoor activities including golfing, vegetable gardening, boating, camping and in his younger days playing football and softball. He enjoyed cruising and traveling all over the United States in his RV with his family and his beloved Maltipoo Jack Daniels. He was an accomplished woodworker and could, and would, repair anything mechanical for any family member or friend who required his skills. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Parris Samuel Cox and Thelma Almeda (née Weaver) Cox and his great granddaughter KyLee Marie Crum. He is survived by his wife of 32 years Sharon Brocksmith Cox, his son Mike (Laura) of Corryton, daughter Cyndi Davis of Rossville, Ga, stepson Sean Burgess of Knoxville, brother Gene (Donna) of Gatlinburg, granddaughters JenaLee Crum and JeraLee Davis both of Rossville, GA, grandson Trevor Cox of Corryton, great granddaughter KynLee Crum, nephew Dennis Cox of Roswell GA, niece Penny (Buddy) Yount of Dripping Springs TX, great nephews Matthew Cox and Alex Yount, great niece Morgan Yount, life-long best friends Larry and Paula Katcham of Lenoir City and their three daughters Kellie, Karen and Nena who looked to him like a second father, father and mother-in-law Joe and Louise Brocksmith, brother-in-law Terry (Debie) Brocksmith and sister-in-law Lindy (Cindy) Bone, and ex-wife Jean Cox.We wish to express our deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center CVICU for their loving care and support.
