Harold Earl (Hoppy) Hopper

Hopper, Harold Earl (Hoppy), passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Ridgeview Terrace of Life Care in Rutledge, TN. Born June 11, 1926 in Shreveport, LA. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn Juanita Hopper, Two daughters, Judy Hopper Boyd and Dolores Hopper Scarbrough, and grandson, Christopher Dale Hopper. He is survived by his daughter Shirley Hopper Hoskins and husband Steve; son Jim Hopper and wife Sandy, sons-in-law W. Stephen Boyd and Charles W. Scarbrough, brother Robert Earl Hopper and wife Janice of California, 7 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. He was a member of Shannondale Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. He served as a deacon and Superintendent of Sunday school. Mr. Hopper was a Navy veteran serving as a medical corpsman attached to the Marines during World War II in the South Pacific at Guadalcanal and Pellieu. He attended Washington University in St. Louis, MO, where he received his BSEE. He worked in X-ray sales and service for General Electric Medical Systems for 28 years. After retiring from G.E. he started his own business, Interstate Medical Products, Inc. Continuing in the field of x-ray for the next 15 years. “Hoppy”, as he was known to all who knew him, was a natural salesman. He never met a stranger and never passed up an opportunity to help anyone in need. He was an avid golfer. He and his wife were members of Beaver Brook Country Club for over Forty years. He served two terms as President of that club and was a member of the Board of Directors until he stepped-down in 2008. He also served one term as President of the Knoxville Area Golf Association. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be greatly missed. The family would like to express their gratitude to the Ridgeview Terrace staff for the wonderful care they provided to Hoppy during the last years of his life. In keeping with his wishes, his body has been donated to the University Medical Center at Memphis. The family will receive friends from 2-4:00 pm Sunday, February 4, 2018 at ROSE MORTUARY BROADWAY CHAPEL. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial be made to either The Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N.
