“The Hope” “Out, out, brief candle,” wrote Shakespeare. The apostle Paul scribed, “life is but a vapor.” It’s a truth that haunches down like a toad in the back of our minds. We try to avoid the thought, but it’s a reality that summons our attention, stopping all our plans, at times with little or no warning. In Powell, Tennessee, on Saturday morning, March 1, the sun rose to run its daily course, as it has for millennia. Only on that day, with lives awakening to rush from place to place, one family would halt and say goodbye to their young mother and wife – Heather Renee Botts. She is survived by her husband, John Gary Botts and their children, 7-year-old Chloe Abigail and 3-year-old, Jordan Gavin. She is also survived by her parents, Jack and Vickie York of James Creek, PA, her sister and brother-in-law, Heidi and Trevor Stafford, and their children of Knoxville, TN. In 1994, Heather graduated from the Huntington Area High School in Pennsylvania and went to study Pharmacology at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, graduating in 2001. While attending Duquesne, Heather earned her Doctorate of Pharmacology and held membership in the Alpha Phi International Fraternity. After graduation, she practiced pharmacy 3 years in the Huntington Area for the Weis Corporation, and another 10 years in the Knoxville area for the K-VAT food stores. A funeral service to celebrate Heather’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 7, 2014 at Oak Ridge Baptist Church, 1451 Bethel Valley Road, Oak Ridge, Tennessee. A private burial for immediate family will follow the funeral. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Oak Ridge Baptist Church. Heather’s family and friends will gather and offer last farewells during Friday’s events; however, these goodbyes are not final. This life is a fleeting shadow, yes, but we were not created for death. It is a real and palpable burden but it is not a bleak existence, and Heather’s family and friends live grounded in the hope that in the magnificent, eternal presence of God - they will see her again.
