Helen "Joyce" Kaye

Helen “Joyce” Kaye, age 56, known to many as “Nurse Joyce” with NeuroSurgical Associates passed away with grace and comfort at her home with family at her bedside on Friday, March 31, 2023. Joyce was born October 9, 1966 in Middlesboro, KY daughter to the late Marvin Keaton and survived by her mother, Martha “Helen” Salyer Keaton. She was the fourth of six siblings. Joyce was a career nurse gaining her nursing certification from Lincoln Memorial University, BSN from UT- Knoxville recognized member of Sigma Theta Tau, and her MS from ETSU to become a family nurse practitioner. Joyce was a nurse for over 35 years. She spent her life caring for people and never met a stranger. She often helped her husband with the Patricia Neal Innovative Recreation Cooperative (IRC) with adaptive recreational opportunities for the community. She was a member of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church and enjoyed medical mission trips. She felt God gave her a calling to help others, and was often a second Mom to so many providing love, comfort and guidance. Though small in stature, Joyce had a heart larger than life. Joyce was an avid outdoorswoman. One of her favorite places was the Great Smoky Mountains where she would go hiking & camping (her favorite being Mt. LeConte). Every summer you could find her working in her garden and letting her neighbors pick her famous sunflowers and zinnias. Joyce was an avid reader with her “flamingo crew” and loved trying new recipes (with some of her home grown vegetables), working out, paddling, traveling or taking the dogs for a walk. Joyce is survived by husband Alfred “Al” Kaye whom she was married to for over 30 years, and her children: Keaton and Allie Kaye, with love from Megan, Hayden, and Beck with her special comfort dogs Blake and Patti; sister, Carol Partin; mother-in-law, Setsuko Kaye, brother-in-law Stephen Kaye and sister-in-law Linda Kaye (Bill). She has numerous dear family friends who are adoptive members of the Kaye household. She is preceded in death by brothers: Anthony, Rick, Joe, and Aaron Keaton. Though her life was shortened, we were blessed to have her in our lives. Joyce will continue to provide love and grace forever in all of our hearts. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 1 PM at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church at 9123 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37923.
