Hilda Fay Huffines Ray

Hilda Fay Huffines Ray, age 81 passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. Daughter of Donald and Sarah Hackett Huffines, Fay was born in Kempville, TN. She was married to Rev. Harold D. Ray, her beloved husband for 56 years. Harold, a minister in the United Methodist Church, served in pastorates in Tennessee and Holston Conferences 52 years. Fay was a very supportive pastor’s wife with her gracious manner, joyful countenance, ready smile, and resourceful helpfulness. She enjoyed singing in choir, working in UM Women groups, teaching Sunday School, and serving as an officer in various groups at each church where she was a member. She was a Certified Lay Speaker and had served in various District Offices of UMW in Knoxville and Chattanooga. She was a member of Christ United Church in Knoxville. Fay was a graduate of Knoxville Business College and Chattanooga State Community College and attended Lee University and Roane State Community College System at three campuses: Roane State, Pellissippi State and Chattanooga State for 24 years. She also worked at UTC for two years, at TVA in Knoxville for eight years, and was a licensed TN real estate affiliate broker. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John Mark and Katherine Hamilton Ray of Knoxville; brother and sister-in-law, Philip and Myrna Petty Huffines, nephew, Philip Allen (Jackie Bennett) Huffines, niece Karen (Stephen) Hackett, all of Carthage, and several cousins. Fay was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Harold Dean Ray, son, David Philip Ray (age 5), father, Donald Huffines, mother, Sarah Huffines, grandparents, Oscar and Mallie Hackett of Carthage, TN and Percy and Valley Huffines of Gladdice, TN. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm Sunday, October 22, 2023 at Rose Funeral & Cremation-Broadway followed by a funeral service at 4:00 pm with Rev. Mark Kilbourne officiating. Family and friends will gather at 12:45 pm CST Monday, October 23, 2023 at Defeated Creek Memorial Garden, Carthage, TN for 1:00 pm CST graveside service.
