James Fred Rogers

Rogers, James Fred-81, of Knoxville, TN. Went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at Park West Hospital after a courageous battle with several illnesses. Born October 6, 1929 in Juno, TN, son of Henry Clarence and Ruby Oldham Rogers. He honorably served his country in the U. S. Navy for 20 years during the Korean and Cold War. He retired as Senior Chief Electrician Mate onboard submarines [George Washington Carver, USS Boxer, USS Corsair, USS Sculpin], and received decorations for China Service, National Defense and obtained his submarine qualification pin. While in the Navy, Fred attended a nuclear school in Idaho. He had the opportunity to learn a secondary trade as a barber which he continued in Knoxville at the Lovell Heights Barber shop. In Idaho he had the opportunity to be the personal barber to Admiral Rickover. Fred retired from the Y-12 plant as an Electrical Supervisor. He was a Deacon for Life, Sunday School Director, teacher, and choir member at Central Baptist Church of Bearden. Preceded in death by parents Henry and Ruby Rogers; wife of 45 years Trevor ‘Jane’ Rogers; brother Ferman Rogers and daughter in law Carol Rogers. Survived by devoted wife of 14 years Iva Dean Wilson Rogers; one brother, Dale Rogers of Ohio; three sisters, Ruth Sarafi of TN, Geraldine Ailing and Fanny Gainer of Ohio; Children, Donald and Betty Rogers, Jim Rogers and Doug and Pam Miller; step children, Steve and Pat Wilson and Phil and Linda Wilson. Known as loving Pappaw to Eric and Kala Rogers [Paden, Paisley, Posie]; Adam and Dena Rogers [Kaylynn, Corbin, Gavin]; Chad and Kandi [Kyra, Keaton, Kai, Kale]; Dale and Pamela Bradley [Kaida and Kaemon]; Michael and Becca Rogers; Wayne Miller; Brandon and Ella Wilson [Isla]; Melissa Wilson; DeAnna Wilson. He is loved and remembered ‘worldwide’ by a host of family and friends. The funeral service will be Wednesday July 13, at 6:30 p.m. Central Baptist Church of Bearden with Dr Larry Fields and Rev Al Royer officiating. Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 4-6:15 p.m. prior to the service. Graveside services with Military Honor Detail at Highland Memorial Cemetery at 10 a.m. on Thursday July 14. .
