James Michael Casey

James Michael Casey, born on July 21, 1949, in New York, passed away on March 7, 2025, in Knoxville, Tennessee. At the age of 75, James left behind a legacy of love, dedication, and commitment that will forever be remembered by all who knew him. Jim is preceded in death by his parents Walter Lawrence Casey and Annette Johnson Casey. He is survived by his wife, Aelise Houston (Keever) Casey; his brother, John Lawrence Casey of New York; son, Sean Casey of Puerto Rico and his daughter, Elizabeth Joan Casey (Mike Wozniak); and their two children Zoey and Zack Wozniak of Atlanta, GA. Jim spent his early years in New York, where he developed an interest in the law and decided to pursue a legal career. He began his academic journey by attending Fordham Preparatory School, Fordham University, and earning a degree from Brooklyn Law School in New York. He was employed by the Interstate Commerce Commission and later worked for the Reid & Priest Law Firm in Washington, D.C. After moving to Knoxville, TN in 1987, Jim was employed in the General Counsel’s Office in the Tennessee Valley Authority until his retirement in 2009. After Jim moved to East Tennessee, he continued his legal career and became a beloved member of the community. His interests extended beyond law and sports. His thirst for “Everything Sports” and his dedication to University of Tennessee Sports in particular, led him to becoming a coach for his two children’s youth sports teams as they were growing up. Jim was not only a dedicated attorney but also a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He married Aelise in 2009, and together they built a life filled with world travelling going to approximately 30 countries which he chronicled with a plethora of photo albums. Outside of his professional and family life, Jim had a passion for the Arts & Sciences. He was known as a “Lifelong Learner”. He also found joy in completing college online courses, as well as, challenging himself to read books. His personal goal was to read over 3000 books after his retirement, and he completed that goal. Jim’s life was a testament to the power of education, the importance of life-long learning, and the enduring strength of family. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to making the world a better place. A private family memorial service to honor Jim’s life will be held at a later date, at Rose Mann’s Funeral Home in Knoxville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the American Diabetes Foundation (ADA) in Jim’s memory.
