Jane Griz Jones

Jane Griz Jones, of Knoxville, TN, went to her heavenly home on July 31, 2023 at the age of 93. Jane was born in Johnson City, TN to the late Charles and Lydia Vest. She attended Milligan College and graduated from UTK with a degree in education. She was a teacher with Knoxville City Schools for over 20 years teaching at Young High and Fulton High schools and was also an adjunct professor at several community colleges. In addition, Jane held a Master’s Degree in Christian Education from Southern Seminary and served as Minister to Senior Adults at First Baptist Church, North Augusta, SC. Throughout her life, Jane was always an active member of her church. She was a gifted Bible teacher and served as a deacon at Central Baptist Church of Bearden. She was also an author of several books and numerous articles. Jane loved UT football and basketball—she was a Vol for Life. Her gentle and sweet spirit made her a wonderful mother, wife, teacher, and friend. Jane will always be remembered for her courageous and adventurous zest for life. She loved well and will be forever missed. In addition to her parents, Jane is also preceded in death by brothers, Warren and Jack Vest; sister, Johnnie “Jonnie Sue” Ross; and beloved husbands, Paul Griz and Boyce A. Jones, Sr. She is survived by her children, Rick Griz (Rhonda), Dr. Lu Griz (Kirby Owen), Melanie Miller (Mike), Andy Jones (Bryant Hawkins), Art Jones; grandchildren, Wendy Proffitt (Bobby), Derek Griz (Jess), Madison Butler (Capt. Jack), McCallie Miller; great-grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Caroline, Benjamin, Hannah Joy; and other extended family and friends. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 6th from 2:00-3:00pm at Rose Funeral and Cremation-Mann, 6200 Kingston Pike, with the Funeral Service to follow. We will meet at Woodlawn Cemetery on Monday, August 7th for an 11:00am Graveside Service.
