Mrs. JoAnn Wood Beahm

Jo Ann Wood Beahm, of Knoxville, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family, Thursday, July 16, 2015, due to complications of a progressive pulmonary dysfunction. Jo was born April 15, 1931, in Huntington, West Virginia. Her high school years were split between Sylacauga, Alabama, and Middleport Ohio High School where she graduated in 1949. She attended West Virginia Wesleyan College. She was a long-time parishioner since 1967 at the Episcopal Church of the Good Samaritan where she was able to attend their 50th anniversary celebration this past April. For many years, she was a volunteer at Fort Sanders Regional Hospital as a Pink Lady. She was employed at Greene’ s Jewelry Gallery where she worked for several years. Jo loved to play bridge and was a member of a ladies’ bridge club and a couples’ bridge club for over 40 years. An avid UT basketball and football fan, Jo and her husband chaperoned the marching band for most of the out of town games during 1960-1970. She was a member of the bowling league at Cherokee Country Club for years. Jo could tell you about her favorite professional golfers and loved watching every event on tv. Jo enjoyed knitting beautiful afghans and sweaters for friends and family; she also traveled most of the world with her husband. She is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Georgia Wood and by her brother Wayne B. Wood. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 62 years, Walter C. Beahm, M.D. of Knoxville, TN and four wonderful children: Megan Beahm Swaggerty (Bill), Knoxville, TN; John Beahm (Lisa), Kingsland, GA; Lisa Beahm Mandrell (Keith), Knoxville, TN; David Beahm (Regina), Brentwood, TN; and grandchildren : Emily Dickinson (Peter), Perth, Australia; Walt Mandrell (Kelly), Ludington, Michigan; Burton Mandrell, Madison, Wisconsin; Joseph Mandrell ,Knoxville, TN; Wade Beahm, Kingsland, GA; David Beahm, Kingsland, GA; Paige Beahm, Brentwood, TN; Chad Beahm ,Brentwood, TN. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Illy Wood and Sue McConkey, of Knoxville, TN, several nieces and nephews, extended family Wilma Day (Bruce), Hendersonville, TN, and her precious furry friend, Lexi. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers, especially Barbara Harrell and Anita Young, her church family, her doctors, especially nephew Armand Wood, M.D., her dear friends, and UT Hospice. Services will be held at the Church of the Good Samaritan at 11:00 am Saturday, July 18, with Interment at the Good Samaritan Memorial Garden. The Rev. Cal Calhoun will be officiating. A reception celebrating Jo’s life will follow the service in Henslee Hall where the family will receive friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Church of the Good Samaritan, 425 N.
