Jody T. Bailey

BAILEY, JODY T. - passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2011, at the age of 90. Born on May 26, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Buford and Ruth Timmons. Jody attended the University of Tennessee after finishing school at Arlington Hall in Washington D.C. She was a member of the Tridelta Sorority. She was also a member the University Circle Club and Kentucky Colonel. She enjoyed beautiful flowers and gardening, traveling with her husband domestically and internationally, spending time with her friends and family, telling colorful jokes and making people laugh. She never met a stranger. Jody loved to take a ride to the Smoky Mountains to see the leaves change. She was a member of the Cherokee Country Club and Deane Hill Country Club. Jody was on the bowling and bridge teams at Cherokee, as well as played tennis and golf. She volunteered her time at Brakebill Nursing Home, reading and visiting with patients. Her passion for philanthropy led to the creation of the Jody Bailey Endowment Fund, a fund dedicated to "helping people weather stormy times." The Fund helped medical patients gain access to food, clothing, transportation, and prescriptions: maintaining her family tradition for community support. Jody was preceded in death by her husband, Jackson W. Bailey. She is survived by son, Dr. Buford Timmons "Tim" Bailey; daughter, Tinky Timmons; grandchildren, Britten Beaver Barry, Brandon Beaver, Derrick Bailey, DeShaun Bailey, and Darren Jackson Bailey; great grandchild, Addison Kate Bailey; neice, Libby Anne Pruit; God daughter, Martha Shurlin; loving and very devoted friend and nurse, Wilma Steele, and Anne Gordon Smallmen, Mary Costa, Pat Morton, Elnier Guthery, Sandra Roberts, Judy Schmit, Gait Brotherton, and other caregivers. The family gives thanks to the Cherokee Country Club and staff, the staff and doctors at Fort Sanders Hospital, Dr. Hovis, Dr. Bandari (Puman), Dr. Pharoh, Dr. Sterling, Dr. Patel, and Dr. Joe Smith. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 18, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 11:30 a.m. at the Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on Lyons View Road. Services will be led by Dr. Michael V. Stanfield, Reverend Mark D. Lampley, and Dr. Holton Siegling. Honorary Pallbearers include Marion Steele, Jr., David Sanders, Charles Purkey, Tom Ramsey, Billy Wilson, and Johnny Green.
