John Frank Haag

Haag, John Frank, age 81 of Knoxville, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, November 26, 2012 at Brakebill Health Care Center. He was born in Erick, Oklahoma on June 14, 1931, to the late Eugene and Alta Haag. John joined the Air Force in 1950 and made it a career, retiring after 22 years of service to his country. As a member of the military, John traveled throughout the United States and the world and always found a church where he could live out his faith in Jesus Christ. After retirement from the Air Force, John worked as a mechanic in Florida, Texas, and Oklahoma. In Knoxville, he was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church, Bearden, where he regularly taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and served as a deacon. He always looked for ways to use what he was given to glorify God and to be a help to others. John was active as a member of the Studebaker Club, and he restored a number of Studebakers and other cars. He and one of his Studebakers appeared in the movie, "Rainman." He loved car shows and tractor pulls. John was an avid bicyclist, riding many miles in Oklahoma and Tennessee. Even in his late-seventies while bravely battling prostate cancer, he participated in a triathlon. Always a farmboy at heart, John enjoyed working with his hands in the garden and building model cars, toys for grandchildren and other various John Haag creations. He loved to laugh, tell stories and spend time in the great outdoors. John was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Wanda; his children, CC Morris and husband, Frank, of Knoxville, Laura McConnell-Corbyn and husband, George, of Oklahoma City, OK, and Lee Haag and wife, Trudy, of Forest, VA.; his grandchildren, Zach Morris, Taylor Morris, Danielle Pasby, Ryleigh McConnell, Heather Haag and Brad Haag, and his great grandson, John Shaffer Pasby, Also his brother, Carl Haag and family of Florida and his sister, Mary Lester of Colorado and nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Funeral service 3:30 PM Wednesday at Central Baptist Church, Bearden with Reverend Mark Moreland officiating. Family and friends will meet 11:30 AM Thursday at East Tennessee State Veterans' Cemetery (John Sevier Hwy) for a graveside and interment service with full military honors presented by the Volunteer State Veterans' Honor Guard.
