John Johnson

John David Johnson, age 83, of Knoxville, TN, beloved husband of Ann Hayes Johnson, passed away on Monday November 14, 2022. John was born in Washington, DC on May 15, 1939, to Marcellus Buek and Agnes Griffin Johnson. Early in his childhood, John and his family moved from Chevy Chase, MD to Clearwater, FL, where he spent most of his youth. He attended St. Leo College Preparatory Catholic School and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida. After graduating, John joined the United States Navy and lived in Virginia Beach, VA. John and his wife, Ann, met and married in Virginia Beach in 1964 and began their 58-year journey together. After a brief move to Charlotte, NC, John and Ann moved to Knoxville, TN, the place they’d call home and raise their family. After working for both Shell Oil and IBM, John decided that his future was as an entrepreneur and formed his own insurance brokerage, John D. Johnson and Associates serving the needs of commercial and personal clients across Eastern Tennessee. John’s love for people was heartfelt, warm and genuine, and he made friends everywhere he went. He had a love of history and a razor-sharp memory of all historical events up until the end. What most will remember about John was his amazing sense of humor. He had a smile and laugh that was contagious to all who knew him, and he saw the humor in almost everything. John was a devout Catholic and was very involved over the years at both Sacred Heart and John XXIII. It wasn’t unusual to find John and Ann cooking dinner for and entertaining their parish Priests at their home on weekends. In addition to his wife, Ann, John is survived by his daughters Renee Puckett (Jeff) of Franklin, TN, Caroline Masucci (Robert) of Atlanta, GA, his sister, Mary Anna West of Baton Rouge, LA, and his grandchildren Cate Elizabeth York Puckett, William Masucci, and Nicholas Hayes Masucci. John is preceded in death by his parents, Marcellus Buek & Agnes Griffin Johnson, and his brother, Joseph Johnson. A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Knoxville, TN on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at 2:00PM followed by a celebration of life gathering.
